Job Description


Responsibilities: The Processes and Operations Section of Materials Engineering supports manufacturing with material related processes such as potting, bonding, encapsulation, welding, brazing, nondestructive testing, paints and coatings. Processes and Operations aids in the transition to production as well as with manufacturing issues. Works directly with manufacturing personnel and suppliers to resolve materials and process issues in real time. Job Description: A weld engineer is required who’s duties will include: design for manufacturability reviews, process selection and definition, supplier auditing, review and selection, failure analysis, weld inspection, welding procedure development, both internally and for suppliers. Must be able to respond to shop floor weld issues, trouble shoot and correct problems in a timely manner in order to support a fast paced manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate will possess


Required Skills:
• Degreed Welding Engineer • AWS QC-1 Certified Welding Inspector • Ability to conduct and oversee a weld performance and procedure qualification program • Extensive hands-on experience in welding procedure development and testing, welding operator qualifications, welding fabrication problem solving and weld inspection. • Ability to transition a technical data package including complex drawing and specifications and translate into practical procedural instructions for use by welders. • Must be adaptable and willing to work in all project phases from concept and design through manufacturing. • Understanding of welding metallurgy and heat treatment operations • Must be self-motivated and posses good communication skills. • General knowledge of non-destructive testing methods such as RT, UT, PT, and MT. • Desire and ability to work as a team member is essential. • Demonstrated problem-solving skills. • Working knowledge of military and Commercial Welding Specifications. • Experienced in reviewing and interpreting drawings, specifications and other technical material. • Experience in training welders and inspectors to meet specification requirements.


Desired Skills:
• Testing laboratory skills including sectioning, metallography, fracture analysis, hardness testing, etc. • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel/Access/Project). • Knowledge of Design of Experiments, Six Sigma and statistical techniques. Education: Bachelor of Science/Engineering Required major: Welding Engineering Experience: 10 years minimum Required Certifications: American Welding Society QC-1
